The
Rainbow Programme is a fresh and innovative
approach to healing from abuse. It provides professional therapy and Rainbow
Programme group-work to individual adult abuse survivors. It has been
established and
successful in the South West since 2000. 85% of clients report that their
well-being
and mental health have significantly improved from going though the
Rainbow
Programme.
The
Rainbow Programme
● delivers
effective recovery from
abuse
● offers expert, holistic, professional
support for survivors of abuse
● puts the power of choice into clients'
hands
● raises awareness of the
“problem” of abuse and its consequences
What is it like to do the
programme?
The whole programme is successful because
it meets
people where they are.
The
Rainbow Programme helps people heal from
painful wounds, many of them old. It teaches clients
self-care and ways to cope with difficult feelings when they
come up, enabling them to feel stability, mentally and emotionally. Our
work
also offers clients insights into their lives and behaviour patterns,
which
helps them make the changes they need to make in order to progress and
move
forward. We encourage clients to love and respect themselves and their
bodies,
often for the first time.
We
offer a safe and supportive environment where unconditional love and
acceptance
is given to all our clients and people can share their deepest fears
and
secrets without judgement or discrimination. Relationships of trust and
respect
are formed with the facilitators, therapists, each other and themselves
while
they learn to recognise their independence and strengthen their ability
to
create what they truly want in their lives.
“Nine months has enabled
a complete rebirth of me. The programme has
made me take part in my own journey and given me the opportunity to be
in
charge of my own route” past client
After going through the Rainbow Programme
ex-clients are enabled to
● become active in their community
● make major life changes
● become healthy and form healthy
relationships
● become economically productive citizens
Why 9 months?
● Short
enough to feel safe: clients said it felt good to have a clear time
boundary.
Long enough to make a difference:
Clients felt that the length of the programme has a rightness
that matched the atmosphere of opportunity and individual
development that the Rainbow Programme gives to clients.
● 9 months is also, of course, the amount of
time needed for pregnancy to
be completed. Many clients felt that this showed a
“rightness” to the length of
the programme. It matched what they felt was a sense of inner rebirth,
that
took place in the climate of opportunity and individual
development that is
created on the Rainbow Programme.
Who can do
the programme?
Anyone who self-defines as having been
abused and
sees themselves as being on a healing pathway can apply to become a
client of
the Rainbow Programme.
What we are looking for: a willingness to change,
to do the 'work' of personal healing and to engage positively with what
the
Programme has to offer (and to make the most of it).
The
Rainbow Programme is not a crisis service. If
someone is in the midst of an addiction, for instance, we know from
experience
that such a person would not be ready to benefit from the programme. We
aim to
provide support for the next part of the journey. One where the person
has emerged from their
crisis, yet needs help on their continuing journey to full recovery.
What do we provide?
We
offer for 9 months:
● Access to our team
of
professionally qualified therapists. Clients effectively
structure their own programme, with support. They clients
choose from a range of therapies, which currently include counselling,
spiritual healing, acupuncture, homeopathy, shiatsu, massage,
kinesiology and
osteopathy.
● Access to Rainbow Programme group work.
The group meets regularly throughout
the nine months of the programme, with one day workshops at the
beginning and
the end. It is a safe, loving environment where clients are supported
through
their individual experience of the Rainbow Programme. Any problems or
issues
that arise can be brought to the group.
● We negotiate financial contributions for
the programme individually at
the assessment interview, taking into account individual circumstances.
While
the aim of the programme is to make therapy and the group support
accessible,
we do require clients to make a financial contribution to the
programme. We
have a minimum contribution level, designed for people on benefits. We
don't
see clients as victims and we encourage people to reclaim their power
and
freedom to heal.
